We’re launching a new initiative to support families and children facing poverty — and we need your help to make it happen.
The Child Poverty Intervention Project is a new initiative by New Life Church Derby, focused on supporting children and families.
Rooted in our mission to express God’s love to individuals, families, communities, and nations, we want to respond to the real needs on our doorstep with practical compassion and lasting hope. This project will be a key way we live out our vision to bring light and transformation to our city and beyond.
Why This Matters
Poverty affects children in every area of life — from health and education to confidence and future opportunities. In Normanton, many families are struggling to make ends meet, especially with the rising cost of living.
1 in 3 children in Derby live in poverty.
Many rely on free school meals as their main source of nutrition.
Parents are facing increasing financial pressure and isolation.
We believe the Church has a vital role to play — not just in meeting immediate needs but in bringing lasting hope and change.

God calls us to defend the vulnerable and welcome children with open arms. This project is one way we respond to that call as a church — by creating spaces of safety, support, and transformation for families in our community.
What We Plan to Do
With your support, we plan to launch a regular after-school initiative that meets both practical and emotional needs of families in Normanton.
We aim to provide:
Shared Meals — Nutritious meals for children and their parents to enjoy together.
Educational Support — A safe space for children to do homework, read, and learn.
Parenting Courses & Practical Help — In partnership with organisations like Derby City Mission, offering support such as debt advice, parenting sessions, and food parcels.
Every gift will help us lay the foundation to make this vision a reality.
