Happy, Help, Hope
“Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God” Psalm 146v5
Today we can be happy because we have the God of Jacob for our help. As you read this pause to thank God that you know Him. Thank Him for all the times He has helped you. Imagine how bleak life would be without a Father in heaven who loves you, and is always willing to help you. Remember that Jacob was not perfect; Jacob had his faults and failings, yet God helped him. God will help you too. If you need His help today, ask for it, and express your thanks in advance for how He will help you.
We all need help in our lives. The great thing for us is that God is ‘a very present help in trouble’ Psalm 46v1. God ‘made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them’, and He can help us. He is more than willing to help us.
Hebrews 13v6 tells us that “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
In view of the fact that we can call on God’s help, how happy we should be! Happiness is that feeling of well being when we are depending on God’s help and living in God’s will. If we depend on our own help, ultimately we will fail. And if we are living simply according to our own will, we will never really be happy.
Happiness is a by-product. If you pursue happiness itself, it will elude you. But if you determine to put Jesus first in your life, and obey Him, and serve His kingdom, then happiness will come your way. We know that happiness is never found in possessions, but is found in knowing Jesus.
“A man’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses”Luke 12v15.
“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”John 17v3.
A lot of people are sadly living without hope. As someone said ‘a ship without a compass is doomed – and so is a life without hope’. But when we know God, we always have hope. Hebrews 6v19 tells us that our hope in Christ is ‘an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast’. That anchor will never slip or fail. We can rejoice in hope because our future is secure in Christ. Our hope in Christ is based on the Word of God. As we read God’s promises, and place our trust in them, we feel hope rising in our hearts. In fact God wants us to be people who ‘abound in hope’. “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15v13. If we are people who abound in hope we will be a powerful witness to those around us, who may well be struggling with feeling of hopelessness.
So today, look up to a God who can help you, be happy and live a life full of hope!
